Music therapy is a research-based allied health practice and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and well- being.
Music therapy is about exploring different aspects of yourself through music and developing tools to take with you. You don't need to have any prior musical skills as this is a space to create and find connection.
Music Garden is an inclusive and neuro-affirming community, ready to support you on your journey to discovering how creative and amazing, you really are.
“Music therapy provides a supportive approach for older people and ....it has been found that Music Therapy in aged care settings is underutilised. The Royal Commission inquiry recommended that residential aged care facilities employ, or otherwise retain, a music therapist” Australian Music Therapy Association.
Music therapy in the aged care setting is not entertainment but carefully planned sessions run by a Registered Music Therapist. The focus will be on group or individual goals, to create a sense of community and connection and to invite engagement and songwriting. There is no need for prior musical skills when engaging in music therapy. The space created is for the aged care residents to express themselves alongside a Registered Music Therapist, who will validate their ideas to create something that is uniquely theirs.
Music Garden is able to travel to your facility on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
Adults often miss out on their own creative time and at Music Garden we think that is wrong!
We offer individual sessions to people interested in learning an instrument and are looking for someone who can be respectful of their learning styles. This can be piano or guitar and we can come to your house or you are welcome in the studio.
We also have a rock group ready to go on Thursday mornings. Groups are limited to 4 members to allow the music therapist to support all the members equally. The idea is to create a group to reduce feelings of isolation, increase connection and community, learn a new skill and make new friends.
No prior skills are needed as the music therapsits are here to support you along the way, whatever age you are.
