Music therapy is a research-based allied health practice and profession, in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and well- being.
Music therapy is about exploring different aspects of yourself through music and developing tools to take with you. You don't need to have any prior musical skills as this is a space to create and find connection.
Music Garden is an inclusive and neuro-affirming community, ready to support you on your journey to discovering how creative and amazing, you really are.
Music therapy in the early childhood setting can be used to support social and emotional wellbeing and understanding, through an engaging and interactive mode.
We provide the instruments and props for the weekly sessions and create a welcoming space for children to express themselves safely. The registered music therapist will work closely with the preschool to find out what areas the staff would like to focus on. They will then create a program that supports these goals and reflects the children’s needs and opinions.
Our sessions may include music making, songwriting, movement, play, relaxation and instrumental playing. We can offer sessions at your preschool in Albury, Wodonga and surrounding areas.
Victorian Preschools can also use School Readiness Fund to support the program.
“Music can be a powerful influence for young people. Registered music therapists work in and with schools to safely make a meaningful difference in the lives of students and young people.” Australian Music Therapy Association.
Music therapy in the school setting is not intended to replace any current music program but to instead support children’s mental health. There is no need for prior musical skills when engaging in music therapy and it is not the space to learn an instrument in a structured lesson. Instead, the space created is for the children to express themselves alongside an adult validating their ideas to create something that is uniquely their own.
We run weekly small group or 1:1 sessions and provide all instruments and props that are required. Children often enjoy recording their work and this is also offered. We are able to travel to Rutherglen, Corowa, Wangaratta and Chiltern as well as Albury/Wodonga.
Victorian schools are able to use School Mental Health Fund, to support this program.
